CAN I DRIVE IN FRANCE WITH A FOREIGN DRIVER’S LICENSE?

If you are looking to drive in France with a driver’s license obtained outside of the European Economic Area, your driver’s license will need to be submitted along with a sworn translation of it. 

Please note: a sworn translation is not the same as a certified translation. Only a sworn translator can provide an official translation in France. Certified translations are not recognized by the French authorities.

If you are planning to move to France, we recommend that you apply for an international driver’s license right away.

You only have one year to complete this process!

Beyond this deadline, you will need to take the French driver’s written test and obtain a new license.

You will be required to complete a minimum number of driving hours at a driving school before you can take the exam. When you take the mandatory driving test, you can request the assistance of a sworn interpreter during the test if you are not proficient in French.

Our sworn translation agency is located in the 8 th District of Paris, in the heart of the embassy and consulate district and minutes away from Parc Monceau and the Arc de Triomphe.
