Whether you are coming to France or are going abroad to study, your application will comprise documents that will need to be translated.
These documents may be requested as part of the Parcoursup application process, for applications to schools and universities abroad, during recruitment or for visa applications.
The diploma or transcripts you obtained in France must be translated in order to be valid abroad. And, conversely, any certificates obtained abroad must be translated in order to be accepted in France.
You must prepare the documents for your application, then when your application has been accepted, for your registration. Official documents require an official translation and more specifically a sworn translation for France.
Be sure to prepare the Apostilles and legalizations needed for the recognition of your documents if the host university requires it.ted by an experienced professional translator.
Students often wonder which documents require official translations. Actually, it’s quite simple: whenever as the document holds any official value, an official translation is required.
In general, diplomas, transcripts, all civil status documents (such as birth certificates), identity documents, driving licenses, and all medical or vaccination certificates will be necessary for your application, registration and visa procedures.
And, once you’re abroad, these translations will additionally be useful for your recruitment. Remember to have your CV/resume and recommendation letters translated so as to put the odds in your favor!
The official translator in France and in Europe appears on an official list of a jurisdiction and is called a sworn translator. In France, translators swear their oath at the court of appeals.
If you require a translation in order to study abroad or come to study in France, you will first need to request a quote online.
Then, you can drop off or send your hard copies for the translator to affix their signature on them. The documents are then stamped with a sworn translator’s stamp or a translation number.
If you do not wish to add any stamps or notes to your originals, you will need to request a certified copy of your diploma or certificate from the city hall, which will indicate that the document is “addressed to foreign authorities”.
Our sworn translation agency is located in the 8 th District of Paris, in the heart of the embassy and consulate district and minutes away from Parc Monceau and the Arc de Triomphe. Our team is available to accept your original documents on site and by appointment Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We also offer consultations by telephone, email, chat, and WhatsApp.
It depends on the country of origin, the country of destination, and the type of document, as well as the level of certification required by the university.
In fact, when you have a document translated in France, it must be a sworn translation in order to be valid.
In common law countries, translations must be certified by an impartial third party with the required expertise.
However, once the document has been translated and arrives abroad, the expected certificate of translation must correspond to the desired country and in the desired language (in English, for example, if the document is translated in France and destined for England or the United States).
When in doubt, I recommend that you always ask the host university about the type of certificate that they require. If you are applying to more than one university, we will use a standard certificate.
Here is an additional, potential challenge: the Apostille. If you move from one country to another, you may be asked for an Apostille or legalization on your document and on your translation, depending on the countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention.
